THE FUNNY SIDE OF THE TEFL LIFESTYLE
Well, you’ve got to laugh, haven’t you? It’s either that or hit the bottle. Oddly enough however, although there are oodles of web pages explaining how to introduce humour into your lessons, there’s a distinct lack of humorous material dedicated to the TEFL lifestyle itself. Which is really strange, considering how nuts the whole thing actually is (alhough an honourable mention has to go to the satirical https://sites.google.com/site/englishdroid2/ – definitely worth a look).
This is, therefore, our little corner dedicated to the sheer, surreal silliness of trying to earn a living by means of short-term contracts, variable or inexistent workers’ rights, trade unions or pension plans. It includes that classic gem of EFL teaching, “Mastering the Idiosyncrasies of the Syntax, Grammar and Idioms of the English Language By Means of Illustrated Tales Demonstrating the Functions Therefore For Continentals and Other Persons of the Foreign Persuasion”, which, we strongly suggest, you do NOT use in your classroom.
